Why Super8?

 

Super8—a film format released by Kodak in 1965 for shooting home movies—naturally casts its subjects in a soft glow, with textured grain, light leaks, and nostalgic warmth baked into each frame.

 

I love shooting events on Super8 because it produces beautiful images, but its gaze is inherently informal, as if the camera were held by a beloved family friend, present to enjoy the day and eager to remember it forever. It allows the viewer to instantly reconnect with the rosy, fleeting feeling that surrounds an occasion.

 

Will you shoot the whole event?

 

Simply put, no. Super8 film comes in cartridges, each allowing for about two and a half minutes of filming. I’ll shoot between two and four cartridges, depending on the package you choose. I can shoot more cartridges for an additional cost.

 

Based on our conversations, I’ll prepare a shooting plan that allows me to be very intentional about what I capture during your festivities. The resulting film is a collage of highlights: key moments, meaningful details, and playful surprises that capture the essence of the day, rather than a complete record of its events.

 

If you’re concerned about the breadth of documentation, Super8 pairs well as an add-on alongside film photography and digital videography, adding an artistic afterword to an otherwise fully documented day. I’m always happy to work collaboratively with your photography and video team.

 

Are you open to capturing other kinds of events besides weddings and proposals?

 

Absolutely! Maybe your family just grew and you'd like an intimate, in-home session to remember your newborn's first days. Maybe your small business is throwing a pop-up event and you'd like some unique coverage to use for promotional purposes on social media. Maybe you're turning fifty and planning the bash of the century. If it's joyful and worth remembering to you and your community, I’d love to help you preserve the experience.

 

What is a Soundscape?

 

Super8 is usually a silent medium. Soundscapes add a dreamy patchwork of recorded, un-synced environmental and ambient sound to your footage — guests’ animated chatter, wind through the trees, live music, your aunt’s distinct laugh. These added candid layers make your film feel like a memory in motion.
